FIFTH CLEAN-UP CAMPAIGN- BY THE RESPONSIBLE AUTHORITY

In this age of environmental concern individuals are outwardly interested in the healthy state of their surroundings. As populations increase and we become more connected with our environment and each other through global communication, commerce and transportation, that interest also increases. Our desire for a clean environment represents a powerful sense of destiny and hope for the future.

A clean-up campaign is an effective environmental conservation initiative. As Chegutu Rural District Council, we have followed in the footsteps of the President of Republic of Zimbabwe in recognising the Constitutional mandate to uphold environmental fundamental rights and freedoms provided in Section 73 of the Constitution of Zimbabwe. This Section guarantees every citizen of Zimbabwe the “the right to an environment that is not harmful to their health and well-being.” This has motivated us to be actively involved in the National Clean-up Day.

On Friday 3rd day of May 2019, we held our fifth Clean-up campaign at various centres within the Chegutu District such as Gadzema, Chegutu Town and our Head Offices premises. The event was led by the Minister of State for Mashonaland West Provincial Affairs Hon. Mary Mliswa Chikoka, who was accompanied by the Minister of justice legal Parliamentary Affairs Hon. Ziyambi Ziyambi, as well as Members of the House of Assembly for Chegutu East and Chegutu West, namely Hon. Webster Shamu and Hon. Dexter Nduna, respectively.

Other participants of the event included Chegutu Municipality Councillors and workers, Cargil Employees, ZIMPLATS, ZRP, Jason Ziyaphapha Moyo Airbase, Nurses from Chegutu District Hospital, ZCC Church, Telone, NSSA, Chegutu Residents, Doves, Agribank and others. The CBD area of Chegutu was cleaned through the combined effort of these groups, and the Provincial Affairs Minister was amazed by the high-turnout and commitment displayed by the participating groups towards maintaining a clean environment.

All type of cleanliness is very necessary for our good health whether it is personal and environmental cleanliness.

Remember, “Clean communities, healthy citizensIt starts with you, it starts with us.
